VICTOR STABIN
Born in New York City, New York, March 5, 1954. Education: High School of Art and Design, New York, NY (1972) Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles, CA (1973-75). The School of Visual Arts, New York City, New York (1975-76). www.victorstabin.com Victor Stabin's paintings capture an ethereal quality that is commonplace yet profound, amusing yet spiritual — a moment of transcendence, where one is transported to unexpected places. His protagonists are a curious mix of characters arranged in fantastic scenes creating poetic meditations that are as much tender, adolescent dreams as forays into a solitary intimacy. In the same realm as Michael Sowa and Balthus, Stabin's paintings take on the otherworldly look of a wonderful fairy tale. Stabin’s artwork has graced the pages of major publications such as Time, Newsweek, The New York Times, Rolling Stone and more than a dozen postage stamps commissioned by the U.S. Postal Service. Stabin designed the 2004 commemorative postage stamp of Henry Mancini of which 87 million copies were made. His portraits of four Nobel Prize winning scientists will be released by the USPS in 2005. He has received commissions from major organizations, corporations and individual collectors including RCA/BMG Corporate Headquarters and Placido Domingo. SOLO SHOWS || GROUP SHOWS || BIBLIOGRAPHY
